Matanao LGU Continues COVID-19 Vaccination Drive

The local government unit of Matanao continues its effort in vaccinating the residents of the municipality.

As of October 21, 2021, all priority categories had been vaccinated with either the first dose or both first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccines.

Based on the guidelines from the IATF, frontline workers in health facilities are to be the first priority for the vaccination, including essential workers in the private and public sectors; this is the A1 priority group. In Matanao, the target population for the A1 priority group is 1,033. As of October 21, 1,242 or 120.23% were already fully vaccinated.

Senior Citizens or those aged 60 and above are on the A2 priority list. These individuals are considered at more risk of the virus since most of them are already experiencing other health conditions brought by their age. Of this population, 1,242 already received the required doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, or an equivalent to 23.41 percent of the total A2 population, which is counted at 5,306.

The next priority group is the A3 which is composed of persons with comorbidities. These individuals have pre-existing medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, immunocompromised, etc. The Local Government Unit of Matanao targets 4,156 individuals to be vaccinated under the A3 group. As of October 21, the local health unit has already achieved complete vaccination of 56.40% or an equivalent of 2,344 individuals.

Frontline personnel in essential sectors, including uniformed personnel and those in working sectors identified by the IATF, compose the A4 priority group. The Municipal Health Office identified 7,062 individuals under this priority group. As of October 21, 2,880 of them were already fully vaccinated, equivalent to 40.78 percent.

The last group to receive the COVID-19 vaccine is the indigent population not otherwise included in the preceding categories. The local health office identified ten thousand two hundred ninety-four individuals for this priority group, and vaccination had already started for them. The latest report shows that 1.97 percent already received the required complete doses of their COVID-19 vaccine.

Out of the 28,481 population of the Municipality of Matanao identified by the Municipal Health Office with guidance from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), 10,345 were already administered with their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Another 7,923 were already fully vaccinated; this means that these individuals already received all the required amounts of the vaccines needed for them. The latest total vaccination achievement of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Matanao is 27.82 percent as of October 21, 2021.

It will take a long time to achieve the required number of fully-vaccinated individuals in Matanao for the LGU to accomplish its goal of herd immunity. However, the local health office is hopeful that it will achieve this goal by the planned schedule since COVID-19 vaccines are steadily provided to the municipality. Until then, our local officials are reminding the residents of Matanao to continue wearing masks and practice social distancing to keep everybody safe.
