PHIVOLCS Conducts Geophysical Survey in Matanao

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) conducted a Geophysical Survey in the Municipality of Matanao last October 29, 2021.

The said survey was actively participated by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office spearheaded by Eric Betarmos, MDRRMO Warnings and Operations Officer together with his team.

This activity is to measure surface waves in order to create a MAP that shows the peak ground acceleration of the area by the use of these two (2) instruments which are the Horizontal-to-Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) and Refraction Micrometer (ReMi). This will also help identify areas where high land acceleration occurs.

The areas that were visited on this activity were the following Barangays: San Vicente, San Jose, Poblacion, Mangga, Bangkal, Asinan, Colonsabac, Kauswagan and Towak.
